Texas car dealer first in U.S. to earn green-building certification

The first certified green automobile dealership in the country, a 14-acre site designed with the environment in mind, is now open for business.

Pat Lobb Toyota in McKinney, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, used a variety of building techniques to earn certification from the U.S. Green Building Councilīs Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. Those techniques include exterior panels created from recycled aluminum, a cistern that captures and conserves water, and a car wash that uses recycled water.

Construction elements from of the dealership are aimed at incorporating recycled materials and conserving water and energy, the dealership said.

"Opening this new dealership in McKinney is exciting in itself," owner Pat Lobb said. "We are also pleased to lead the way with a super energy-efficient and environmental facility."
