BP Shipping imposes new restrictions on tankers in 2007

London (Platts)--14Dec2006

Global oil major BP announced Thursday new restrictions beginning January
9, 2007 for dirty and clean petroleum product tankers limiting the age and
type of hull for vessels carrying oil, a spokesman said.
"The restrictions are part of a continuing process of reviewing our
tankers and deciding what is appropriate for our business. This will be our
standard practice for the industry," BP said.
Restrictions currently in place for dirty product tankers requiring a
double hull will be extended to clean product tankers for vessels with a
deadweight above 5,000 mt, and in 2008 the weight limit for double hull
restrictions on all BP chartered tankers is to be extended downwards to 600 mt
deadweight vessels.
The age requirements for all BP chartered tankers above 5,000 mt will
also tighten from 24 to 22 years in 2007, while in 2008 vessel age will be
limited to 20 years and 25 years for vessels under 5,000 mt.
