Worldwide demand for hybrid-electric vehicles will reach 3.9 million units by 2015 and nearly double that figure by 2020, a research group said.
Cleveland-based Freedonia Group Inc. said cost disparities between hybrid electric vehicles and conventional light vehicles are currently about $1,000 to $3,000. But that number should to drop as production increases.
The United States, Japan and Western Europe will be the primary markets
for these vehicles, the group said in its new study, "World Hybrid
Electric Vehicles."
