Maine dairy to switch 90% of fleet to biodiesel by year´s end

Nov. 29 -- A Portland, Maine, dairy plans to have more than 90 percent of its delivery fleet running on biodiesel fuel by the end of this year.

Oakhurst Dairy said the switch involves 130 trucks and will give Oakhurst the largest private biodiesel fleet in New England. The switcht to B20 fuel, which includes 20 percent biodiesel fuel and 80 percent traditional petroleum diesel, will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 1,332 tons per year.

"We have been working on decreasing our carbon emissions for several years as part of our commitment to a healthier planet," Oakhurst Dairy President Stan Bennett said. "But this is a huge step forward for our organization."
