Venezuelan oil exports to US drop again

17-11-06

For the sixth time this year, Venezuelan oil shipments to the United States decreased based on the figures provided by the Energy Information Administration, the statistical arm of the US Department of Energy.
Specifically, Venezuelan crude oil exports to the US in September averaged almost 1.13 mm bpd, a drop of 22,000 bpd compared to August, but an increase of 56,000 bpd (5.2 %) compared to 1.07 mm bpd in September 2005.

So Venezuela remained as the world's fourth largest suppliers of crude oil to the US, after Canada, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, the exports of each exceeding 1.44 mm bpd. So far this year, Venezuela has placed in the US a mean of 1.15 mm bpd of crude oil compared to 1.31 mm bpd in the same period of 2005. Therefore, the gap amounts to 153,000 bpd or 11.6 %.
The EIA report added that US overall crude oil imports were 10.64 mm bpd, an increase of 103,000 bpd chiefly attributable to an increase in shipments from Saudi Arabia. The five major oil suppliers concentrated 64 % ofthis total, while the 10 major crude oil suppliers totalled 85 % of US overall crude oil imports, according to the EIA.

Total hydrocarbons
On top of the 1.13 mm bpd of crude oil it sold to the US in September, Venezuela supplied to the US 247,000 bpd of oil by-products, thus placing total exports at 1.37 mm bpd. This figure mirrors a drop of 62,000 bpd (4.3 %) compared to August and a slight increase of 2,000 bpd (0.14 %) versus September 2005.
Therefore, it can be concluded that, unlike previous years, the placement of Venezuelan oil by-products in the US market, recorded a larger decrease than the supply of crude oil. In August, Venezuela sold 287,000 bpd of oil by-products in the US, but in September it placed 247,000 bpd, a figure below standards.

So far this year, Venezuela has supplied the US with 1.44 bpd of hydrocarbons, a drop of 146,000 bpd or 9.18 % compared to 1.59 mm bpd sold in January-September 2005.
"Canada remained as the largest supplier with 2.25 mm bpd of crude oiland by-products. The second largest oil supplier was Mexico, again, with 1.56 mm bpd, a figure that represents a small increase of 189,000 bpd compared to August," the EIA said in its latest report.
