Goals
The Great Wall World Renewable Energy Forum (GWREF) is a high level
symposium , which is being organized in accordance with United Nations
community cooperation principles for global renewable energy development.
The GWREF represents a catalytic approach with a unique Chinese
perspective to the realization of renewable energy development goals for
both China and the world by fostering international communication,
promotion, and development in the global renewable energy context.
Background and Signification
Papers Submission
In order to promote sustainable
human development and environmental preservation, the gradual
establishment of sustainable energy systems based on the use of renewable
energy resources is currently a general pursuit of the global community.
During the successful International Governmental Conference for Renewable
Energies held in Bonn, Germany in June 2004, the international community
focused on the prioritization of the use of renewable energy as the basis
for developing future global energy systems. The joint declarations
adopted by the Conference participants reflected the determination of
various countries to take action to accelerate the exploitation of
renewable energy on a global scale.
As a newly developing economy
with the world's largest population, China faces the dual challenge of
pursuing economic growth and environmental protection. In order to promote
economic development and environmental preservation, it is a matter of
global significance that China considers new paradigms for energy
production and consumption incorporating the exploitation of its immense
clean and renewable energy resources.
The Chinese Government has made the development of renewable energy a high
priority in its national sustainable development strategy. Aggressive
renewable energy development targets have been incorporated into the mid-
and long term strategic planning processes of the Chinese Government, for
a 10% contribution from renewable energy in the total energy mix projected
in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Renewable Energy
Law has been passed already in 2005, which shows the National People's
Congress great supporting on the development of legislation.
The combination of enormous renewable energy resource potential coupled
with a demonstrated willingness and future commitments to develop those
resources is increasingly capturing the world's attention.
Given this background of strategic importance and implications for
contributing to global renewable energy development, several organizations
in China have partnered with the Chinese Government and international
organizations to promote the Great Wall World Renewable Energy Forum in
2006. Organizations include the Chinese Solar Energy Society, the Chinese
Renewable Energy Industries Association, the Chinese Wind Energy
Association, and the World Council for Renewable Energy, together with
several agencies of the Chinese Government. It is planned that the GWREF
will convene its first conference in October, 2006.
The organizers of this event commit themselves to unrelenting efforts to
make the GWREF a permanent and high-level platform to promote dialog
between China and the international community on issues of global
sustainable development. The conference will provide a forum to promote
the exchange of ideas between the most influential leaders in the field of
international renewable energy development and will promote general global
cooperation for sustainable development. We earnestly invite additional
organizations to join and support this significant effort.
