Bush meets with Republican, Democratic senators on energy

Washington (Platts)--15Feb2006
President Bush met Tuesday with Republican and Democratic senators on
energy issues, though no decisions were made on legislation, a spokesman for
one of the participants, Senator Jeff Bingaman (Democrat-New Mexico) said
Wednesday.

"The purpose of the late-afternoon meeting was to allow the president to
lead a bipartisan discussion on energy issues, with no specific agenda by the
White House beyond identifying areas where there may be a desire to work in a
bi-partisan manner, and then to work to achieve progress," the spokesman for
Bingaman, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources
Committee, said. "In particular, the president wanted to draw attention to the
advanced energy initiatives highlighted in his State of the Union speech, and
to build congressional support for those proposals."

Among the others attending the 50-minute meeting, the Bingaman spokesman
said, included Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Pete Domenici
(Republican-New Mexico).
