Evergreen Solar signs $100 mln contract in Germany

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR.O: Quote, Profile, Research), a U.S. maker of solar power products, said on Tuesday it had entered into a four-year supply contract worth $100 million with Germany's S.A.G. Solarstrom AG.

Under the agreement, Evergreen Solar will ship about $100 million of photovoltaic modules to S.A.G. over the next four years that will be manufactured at its plant in Massachusetts and its new 30-megawatt facility in Thalheim, Germany.

S.A.G. Solarstrom, which is based in Freiburg, builds and operates solar power stations, and sells the generated energy to corporations and utility companies.

Shares in Evergreen Solar soared nearly 13 percent to $15.90 in pre-market trade on the Inet electronic brokerage system.
