Augusta, Maine [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Last week at the Maine State
House, Governor Baldacci unveiled the actions that will be taken to
address energy issues. The Governor's first proposal is to increase the
amount of cost-competitive renewable energy from by 10 percent by 2017.
The Governor acknowledged Rep. Ken Fletcher of Winslow in his remarks,
noting that he is championing this goal. This proposal will make use of
renewable energy resources such as wind, tidal, biomass, certain
hydroelectric, geothermal, and solar power. Governor Baldacci has also
proposed that the Maine Public Utilities Commission be authorized to
acquire energy conservation and energy efficiency measures. Governor
Baldacci also proposes using a long-term contract approach to help
stabilize energy prices, increase fuel diversity, and to secure power from
energy resources that emit no greenhouse gases.
