Federal prosecutors in southern California have announced the unsealing of a felony indictment charging a man allegedly affiliated with a radical environmental group with teaching others how to build and use explosive devices.

Rodney Adam Coronado, identified as a self-proclaimed member of the Earth Liberation Front, has been charged with one felony count of demonstrating the use of a destructive device, according to U.S. Attorney Carol C. Lam.

Coronado was arrested Feb. 22 in Tucson, Ariz., by agents of the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The indictment from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California accuses Coronado of demonstrating in August 2003 at a public gathering in San Diego how to make and use a destructive device, with the intent that the device be used to commit arson.

"America will not tolerate terrorists," said FBI special agent in charge Daniel Dzwilewski. "Whether you were born here or abroad, we will not stand back and allow you to terrorize our communities under the guise of free speech."

An indictment is a formal charge and does not imply innocence or guilt.

The Earth Liberation Front, an underground movement, has been linked to arson fires targeting businesses that its members accuse of damaging the environment.
