Russian gas imports to Italy fall to 8.5-mil cu m short Tuesday

London (Platts)--7Feb2006
The shortfall of Russian gas supplied to Italy will likely fall a further
2.5-mil cu m Tuesday to give a total shortfall of 8.5-mil cu m, Italy's gas
network operator Eni said Tuesday.
The reduction is equivalent to an 11.5% shortfall from the 74-mil cu m
requested and will have a 2.1% impact on overall national demand, Eni said.
The shortfall coincides with another snap of cold weather which is
hitting the country following a respite last week which coincided with full
delivery quotas. In January, transit country Ukraine said it had taken more
gas than contracted to meet spikes in demand. An Eni official said Monday that
Italy suffered shortfalls because it was "at the end of the chain."
