Power set No 1 at the Kalinin nuclear power station was shut down at 1715 Moscow time [1415 gmt] by the automatic protection system, the activation of which is being investigated, says a press release issued by the Rosenergoatom concern [Russian nuclear power operator].

Power sets Nos 2 and 3 are operating at normal capacity, totalling 2,030 MW. "The radiation background at the Kalinin power station and the adjacent area is at a normal level," the press release says. Rosenergoatom operates all 10 nuclear power stations in Russia.
