Shareholders urge GE not to back climate-change regulation

Feb. 1

A shareholder group is calling on General Electric Co. to stop advocating global warming regulation.

Action Fund Management LLC, an investment advisor to the Free Enterprise Action Fund, has filed a shareholder resolution asking GE to justify its support to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The resolution demands that the company provide shareholders scientific and economic evidence relevant to company´s position.

The group said it believes human activity is not measurably changing the global climate and that GE´s support of greenhouse gas regulation may harm the company´s shareholders.

GE had asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to allow the company to exclude the resolution, but the commission denied that request last month.
