State, federal agencies work to contain oil spill at Chevron plant in N.J.

Chevron Products Co. and state and federal agencies are responding to a 31,000-gallon New Jersey crude oil spill that occurred Feb. 13.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection also responded to the incident in Arthur Kill, a body of water that borders Chevron Asphalt Plant in Perth Amboy, N.J.

Personnel from Chevron, Clean Harbors Cooperative, Atlantic Response and Marine Spill Response Corp. are dealing with the incident. They deployed 8,000 feet of boom to contain the spill, and 13 vessels responded.

Chevron is working with the regulatory agencies to determine the cause of the spill. No injuries have been reported.
