Taking
Care of Business
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is
hoping the fourth time’s a charm with its most recent letter urging the world’s
largest companies to disclose their climate-management data. The coalition of
institutional investors representing $31 trillion in assets had already sent
three such letters to the Fortune 500, but has since
broadened its scope, posting letters to 1,800 of the largest quoted
companies in the world. (We couldn’t help noticing that the new mailing list
includes 300 of the largest emitters in Canada. Looks like the CDP has reason to
feel optimistic in that quarter: A
new survey by the Conference Board of Canada found that Canadian companies
see a clear business case for disclosing climate risk.)
