US regular retail gasoline prices rise 1.4 cts: EIA

The average price of regular retail gasoline in the US rose by 1.4 cts to
$2.254/gal in the survey week ended Feb 27, the US Energy Information
Administration reported Monday.

     The latest average price was 32.6 cts/gal over the average one year ago.

     EIA's data showed that retail gasoline in the Midwest pulled the average
higher, as retail in the region rose by 9.2 cts to $2.259/gal. The Rocky
Mountain region also registered a price rise in the survey week, although not
as large as the Midwest, with a average of $2.235/gal up 1.9 cts on the week.

     Elsewhere, East Coast retail was 2.1 cts/gal cheaper over the survey
period, at $2.235, while West Coast prices were 2.7 cts lower at $2.383/gal.
Gulf Coast retail, at $2.152/gal, was 1.5 cts lower.

     Among the major US cities, regular retail in New York City was 1.6 cts
lower at $2.266/gal, while Chicago retail was fetching $2.267/gal, up 2.4 cts
in the survey week. Los Angeles retail, at $2.456/gal, was down by 5.1 cts,
while Houston retail was 4.4 cts lower at $2.105/gal.

       EIA also reported the average prices in the US for on-highway diesel
fuel. Nationwide, diesel prices were up 1.6 cts in the survey week, to
$2.471/gal, and up 35.3 cts over the same week in 2005.

       By region, West Coast diesel was selling for an average $2.623/gal, up
2.9 cts on the week, while Gulf Coast prices averaged $2.443/gal, up 1.6 cts.
Midwest diesel prices were $2.417/gal, up 1.9 cts, and Rocky Mountain prices
were up 1.2 cts at $2.509/gal. East Coast prices of $2.493/gal were up 0.6 ct
in the survey week.
