Olympia, Washington [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Washington State House
of Representatives furthered its commitment to green energy last week
according to the office of Rep. Jeff Morris (D-Anacortes), the prime
sponsor of the legislation. Under Morris's proposal, state agencies would
purchase all available power produced by anaerobic digesters, small power
plants, usually located on a dairy farm or cattle ranch that converts
methane gas from animal waste into electricity. Morris said biomass
technology must be developed to supplement weather- dependent wind and
solar power and added that digester technology is also important for a
viable dairy industry. House bill 2349 passed the House with wide
bipartisan support and now awaits action in the Washington State Senate.
