Club cred: Everyday folks can offset vehicle emissions with membership

July 20 --

A new program allows individuals to purchase carbon credits to offset the greenhouse gas emissions from their personal vehicles.

The Applied Credits for Environmental Sustainability, or ACES, program purchases credits through the Chicago Climate Exchange and then uses them to offset emissions from members´ vehicles.

ACES program members pay $24.95 to $89.95 for a one-year membership depending on the size of their vehicles.

"We´re about personal action toward GHG mitigation -- not empty talk, finger-pointing or expecting somebody else to come up with a quick fix," said Dave Simpson, CEO of Simpson & Partners, founder of ACES.
