Federal officials to conduct environmental listening sessions

July 13 --

The secretaries of the departments of Agriculture, Interior and Commerce, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and the chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality have announced a series of listening sessions across the country.

The government agencies want to exchange ideas with the public on incentives, partnership programs and regulations that can improve results and promote cooperative conservation and environmental partnerships, according to the agencies.

The topics to be discussed will include enhancing wildlife habitat and species protection; improving cooperation between the federal, state and local governments in the application of environmental protection and conservation laws; improving the science used in environmental protection and conservation; and how the federal government can work cooperatively with businesses and landowners to protect the environment and promote conservation.

The meetings will be held throughout the summer. The agencies said July 12 that the dates, times and locations would be announced soon.
