G.E. turbines power Irish green energy project

June 30 --

General Electric Co. will provide an Irish renewable energy company with more than 300 wind turbines in $550 million deal.

Airtricity, based in Dublin, will buy the 1.5-megawatt turbines, which will produce 500 megawatts of wind energy in total. It will use the turbines in projects slated for 2008, already having bought equipment for its U.S. wind farm projects in 2006 and 2007. It plans to develop 4,500 megawatts of wind farms in Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Nearly 5,000 1.5-megawatt GE Energy wind turbines are in service. GE Energy, an Atlanta-based subsidiary of GE, supplies power generation and energy delivery equipment.
