Sony launches battery, phone recycling at retail stores

July 11 --

Sony Electronics Inc. has rolled out a recycling program for rechargeable batteries and wireless phones at its Sony Style retail stores throughout the United States.

The company is partnering with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp. to use the group´s Call2Recycle program to collect and recycle the products. Consumers will be able to drop off old rechargeable batteries and cell phones at Sony´s retail outlets. Online customers at www.sonystyle.com also will be able to mail in their old batteries for recycling.

"Thanks to partnerships like these, our efforts to recycle rechargeable batteries and cell phones have greatly increased, as well as our ability to educate new consumers on the simple and easy ways they can help protect the environment," said Ralph Millard, RBRC executive vice president.
