Uses, releases of
mercury in U.S. have plummeted since 1980: Report

The releases and uses of mercury in the United States have decreased
significantly over the past 25 years, according to a report released
July 5 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Mercury air emissions have been reduced by 45 percent since 1990, and
mercury use in products and processes decreased by 83 percent between
1980 and 1997, according to the EPA.
The EPA´s "Roadmap for Mercury" is the first comprehensive overview
of agency mercury activities and describes progress and ongoing efforts
in reducing mercury from the environment.
