Summary:
  Through the Environmental Portfolio Standard (EPS) Credit Purchase Program, Arizona Public Service (APS) offers customers who install photovoltaic and solar hot water systems the opportunity to sell the credits associated with the energy generated to APS. Solar energy systems are eligible for the following credit amounts:
  • Grid-tied residential PV: $3/watt DC; No system size limit;

  • Grid-tied commercial systems: $2.50/watt DC up to $500,000; Alternatively, commercial customers may opt for a production-based incentive;

  • Off-grid residential PV: $2/watt DC; System must be less than 5 kW;

  • Solar hot water systems: Credit amounts are based upon an estimate of annual system energy savings at $0.50/kWh.

  • Expansions to existing systems are eligible for a credit of up to 50% of their costs.
APS recently allocated an additional $4,250,000 toward its Credit Purchase Program, bringing the total funding commitment for 2006 to $8,500,000. Of the additional funds, $2,125,000 has been allocated to residential installations and $2,125,000 has been allocated to commercial installations with a set aside of $500,000 for production based incentives.

Funds are assigned through a reservation process. All necessary forms can be downloaded from the program website.

APS is purchasing solar credits to help the company meet the state's Environmental Portfolio Standard. Participating customers receive a one-time EPS Energy Purchase Credit or receive an incentive based on system output or kWh savings. APS will have access to the credits for the life of the EPS program.
