Airtricity buys $550 mil of wind turbines for US in 2008

Washington (Platts)--29Jun2006

Irish wind farm developer Airtricity has bought 300 1.5-MW, GE Energy
wind turbines in a deal worth more than $550 million, the Dublin-based company
said Thursday.

The investment is to support Airtricity's program to construct wind
capacity in the US in 2008, the company said. Airtricity has already secured
the turbines it needs for 2006 and 2007, it said.

Airtricity currently has 4,500 MW of wind capacity under development
in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New Mexico and has an
ambitious build program in place through 2008 and beyond, including
advanced plans to develop in the California and Canadian markets, it said.

"This investment represents Airtricity's largest purchase of
turbines...to date," Airtricity CEO Eddie O'Connor said in a statement.
"Bearing in mind the intense competition that exists in acquiring turbines at
a time of world shortage, we are delighted to have secured capacity to deliver
a further 500-MW of renewable energy for our 2008 build programme in the US."
