American
Electric Power (AEP) Selects Enviance for Title V and Greenhouse Gas
Reporting
Jun 27, 2006 - PR Newswire
CARLSBAD, Calif., June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Enviance, the leading
provider of Internet-based, on demand systems for the management of
environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance activities, today
announced that American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), one of the largest
electric utilities in the United States, selected Enviance as its system
of record for Title V compliance and greenhouse gas reporting and
inventory management.
Located in Columbus, Ohio, AEP owns or operates more than 36,000
megawatts of coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable fueled generating
capacity. As one of the largest generators of electricity in the United
States, AEP is committed to ensuring its power plants are in compliance
with federal, state and local air regulations for SO2, NOx and
particulates, and to reducing greenhouse gas emissions including carbon
dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), methane (CH4), and sulfur
hexafluoride (SF6).
As a leader in national efforts to address Green House Gas issues,
AEP voluntarily participates in programs such as the Chicago Climate
Exchange (CCX), Department of Energy's Climate Challenge (1605b), and
Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders -- each having its own
compliance reporting requirements. After extensive study of market
alternatives, AEP selected the Enviance System to reduce the cost and
time associated with tracking, analysis and reporting of the thousands
of daily data points associated with Title V air compliance and Green
House Gas monitoring and reporting.
Using web services, Enviance integrated the Enviance System with
AEP's Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Opacity Monitoring
Systems (COMS), and the company's custom enterprise application for fuel
loading management. This integration with multiple enterprise systems
has created a seamless flow of process data into the Enviance System and
allows AEP to monitor, report, and analyze its air and green house gas
emissions from their dispersed facilities in an efficient, cost
effective and centralized way.
"AEP has placed reduction of greenhouse gas high on its agenda, made
it plain that the issue is very important to shareholder value, and has
eagerly taken a leadership position in the effort to solve global
warming issues. Given the obvious importance of these issues to its
shareholder value, we are honored that AEP has embraced the Enviance
System as its centralized greenhouse gas tracking and reporting system
of record," said Lawrence Goldenhersh, President and CEO of Enviance.
"AEP stands as a sterling example of the eagerness with which
multi-billion dollar corporations are embracing Software as a Service
solutions to address issues that are critical to shareholder value. With
its deployment of web services to integrate Enviance with various core,
behind-the-firewall, enterprise software systems, AEP is also a sterling
example of how large corporations leverage their investment in existing
enterprise software by reusing the data through Internet-driven
integration," Goldenhersh continued.
