LONDON

THE City is willing and able to finance a new generation of nuclear power stations, MPs were told today.

Energy expert Professor Keith Palmer, giving evidence to the Commons Trade and Industry select committee, said the City would underwrite the multibillion-pound cost if the Government gave the green light.

Tony Blair has said he would like Britain to surge ahead with nuclear power, believing it is the only way to secure an energy supply and meet carbon emissions targets.
