Contractors begins towing cars, boats abandoned after Katrina

Towing is beginning on thousands of cars and boats abandoned on public property in the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina.

The contractor hired to do the work, DRC Inc., expects to tow up to 200 cars and boats a day in a project that will take four to five months, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said.

Letters will be sent to owners´ last known addresses. Cars and boats will be held for a short period of time, the DEQ said.
