June 16 --

About 10 percent of the Port of Los Angelesī new budget will be spent on environmental initiatives, the port said.

A key part of the roughly $85 million in spending involves the portīs Clean Air Plan, designed to reduce health risks from port operations. The port expects the plan to be available for public comment later this month.

The port also will spend money on wetlands mitigation projects, protection and cleanup of port soil and groundwater, a new air emissions inventory, and enhanced air quality monitoring during the fiscal year starting July 1.
