Putin says Gazprom ready to take part in Iran-India gas
pipeline
Moscow (Platts)--16Jun2006
Russia's gas giant Gazprom is prepared to take part in the construction
of a gas pipeline to transport Iran's gas to Pakistan and India, Russian's
Prime Tass news agency said Friday, citing Russia's president Vladimir Putin.
"Gazprom is prepared to participate in implementing this project,
including in terms of financing, especially as the project like this is to pay
for itself," Putin told reporters Thursday in Shanghai, where he was attending
the leaders' summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The planned pipeline, whose length has been pegged at 2,760 km by Iranian
reports, is expected to run 1,115 km in Iran, 705 km in Pakistan and 850 km in
India. Its transmission capacity is expected to be around 150 million cubic
meters/day (5.29 Bcf/day), with India buying nearly two-thirds of the gas and
Pakistan the remaining third.
