Singapore joins Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership
SINGAPORE, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has joined the Renewable
Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) to become its 32nd
government member, Channel NewsAsia reported Wednesday.
The report quoted Singapore's National Environment Agency as saying
that this is a positive and important step for the city state, which is
expected to help support the establishment of an energy efficiency
market in the region.
Established as an international non-governmental organization ( NGO)
in Austria in June 2004, the REEEP structures policy initiatives for
clean energy markets and facilitates financing mechanisms for
sustainable energy projects.
Currently, the REEEP has more than 160 members including governments,
multinational organizations, businesses and NGOs. All Group Eight (G8)
countries except Russia have joined the partnership.
