LONDON - Rubbish from as far away as Japan and Brazil is washing up on a remote Scottish beach.
The St Kilda archipelago in the Outer Hebrides is a World Heritage site and home to a million seabirds. But its windswept isolation in the north Atlantic is no protection from global garbage.
Collecting trash from St Kilda's only beach, staff from the National Trust of Scotland found discarded plastic containers that once held Brazilian mustard, Japanese detergent, Dutch yoghurt and French shower gel.
"Despite being so remote, St Kilda is not immune to the problems of plastic marine debris pollution," said marine ranger Sarah Money.
