Federal Minister of the
Environment, Gabriel, starts Competence Centre for Climate Consequences and
Adaptation in the Federal Environment Agency
The startling climate scenarios are coming closer, both in
terms of time and space. A new
calculation model from the Federal Environment Agency (UBA)
prognosticates a rise of the annual average temperature leading up to 2100,
which will be characterized by strong differences in season. The comparison
was made to the changes between 1961 and 1990, a 2 to 3 °C change. The
summer precipitation levels will be reduced by roughly 30%, affecting the
north-eastern and south-western parts of Germany the most. In light of this
real threat, 200 scientists from the agency will convene to
discuss the effect upon agriculture, the energy industry, tourism, flood
protection and other aspects of daily life as well as avoidance and
adaptation strategies.
Environmental Minister Sigmar Gabriel, along with UBA
President Prof. Dr. Andreas Troge, will break the ground for the new “Competence
Centre for Climate Consequences and Adaptation (KomPass)”
(German) in the UBA.
With painful truths, one always needs something more,
until it is handled – and ultimately changed. Therefore, it is helpful for
us, as well as our customers, to see the results of a further study that
demonstrates that global warming is related to our existence. It is most
important to distribute this information, so that noone can say, “they know
not what they do.”
