EPA says computer rules will save 2.7 million carsī worth of emissions

Oct. 25 --

New Energy Star specifications for computers and related equipment are expected to prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to the output of 2.7 million cars annually.

The new specifications will mean that only the most energy-efficient equipment will earn the Energy Star label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. By using less power, the equipment will prevent the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of more energy.

The new specifications start July 20, 2007.
