Home Depot Inc. has agreed to offset all the carbon emissions from its Atlanta headquarters and some of the emissions from workers´ commutes and business trips through reforestation.
The home improvement retailer has entered into an agreement with The Conservation Fund to pay for the planting of thousands of trees in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The company annually emits about 36,500 tons of carbon dioxide at its 35-acre headquarters. Workers´ commutes add another 12,100 tons per year, and business travel an additional 2,300 tons.
The Conservation Fund´s Go Zero program measures carbon dioxide
emissions and helps businesses offset those emissions by planting trees,
which absorb carbon dioxide.
