Toyota begins first North American production of Camry Hybrid

Toyota is starting production of the Camry Hybrid at a plant in Georgetown, Ky., the first hybrid vehicle produced in North America by the company.

Toyota invested $10 million at the plant to build approximately 48,000 Camry Hybrid vehicles each year.

``Production at the new Kentucky plant marks an exciting chapter in Toyota´s history and a monumental step toward our ongoing commitment to hybrid technology,´´ said Don Esmond, a senior vice president of automotive operations.

The hybrid combines gasoline and electric power to operate.
