OVERVIEW

 

Fossil Power Plant Fundamentals

August 21 - 22 2007

This is an introductory course designed to improve general knowledge of Fossil Power Plant operations, and their major components. This course will provide you with an understanding of Fossil Power Generation, and will concentrate on fundamental principles and concepts. Attendees will be provided with various examples and illustrations to reinforce the information given.

Each attendee will receive a detailed workbook with explicit information on Fossil Power Plants, their design, concept, and functions including components and their operations.

Course Objectives

This 1 1⁄2 - day course will provide a basic knowledge of Fossil Power Plants, their major components, and Fossil Power Production. Attendees will be provided with the following information:

  • Basic principles of Fossil Power Plant production Major components: their function and description within the Fossil Power Plant
  • Energy Conversion from fuel input conversion thru generator electrical output
  • Condenser and Auxiliaries, how they are used and why they are necessary
  • Function of regenerative equipment in the condensate/feedwater system and its function in conjunction with the boiler and condenser
  • Functions and descriptions of the various pumps

Who Should Attend

  • New Fossil Power Plant employees with limited power industry experience
  • Regulators, Commission Staff (State and Federal), Attorneys, ISO’s/RTO’s, Industry Vendors, and anyone else who desires a basic knowledge of Fossil Power Plants
  • Technicians, Operators, and Maintenance personnel who desire a better understanding of Fossil Power Plants and their component’s functions

Gas Turbine Fundamentals

August 22 - 23, 2007

This purpose of this course is to familiarize gas turbine operators and maintenance personnel with the fundamentals of gas turbine operation, including the principles of heat transfer and thermodynamics. It will also cover the gas turbine familiarization, Control System Overview, Maintenance Overview, and Unit Operation. The purpose of this training is to provide maintenance, operations, engineering, and management staff a broad based familiarization of the technology’s features, system operations, and maintenance concepts.

 

Who Should Attend

 

Personnel requiring general familiarization specifically in the areas of routine maintenance, on-site repair, operations, troubleshooting, and performance for gas turbines.
