"All stakeholders met with the president yesterday...
He wants to see how we can avoid frequent review in fuel prices...The
president will soon announce measures to achieve these plans." The Nigerian
government is seeking to end frequent adjustment in prices of petroleum
products that have been stoking unrest in the country, by boosting local
production and supply, Oluwole Oluleye, head of the Petroleum Products
Pricing Regulatory Agency, said. He also said that a meeting was held Monday
in Abuja between President Umar Yar'Adua and other stakeholders in the
industry.
"We are closely monitoring Hurricane Dean and will
continue preparations at [ExxonMobil] facilities in closest proximity to the
storm as necessary." ExxonMobil on Monday
said it was continuing normal production operations at its Gulf of Mexico
and Mobile Bay operations despite Hurricane Dean, because the storm's track
was to the south of those operations. In an update on its web site,
ExxonMobil did note that about 2,100 b/d of Gulf liquids production and
21,000 Mcf/d of natural gas output was shut-in due to a third-party [Maritech]
platform shut-in at the company's Vermillion 164 platform in the western
Gulf.
