Rethinking Climate Change

A new vision to reduce greenhouse gas emissions gains national attention & support

Press Release from American Solar Energy Society
Boulder, Colorado, USA

There's a key component of climate change that's underreported and often overlooked. In the U.S., a surprisingly high 21% of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions come from energy used in the home, making home energy use one of the biggest contributors to global warming. But an important new renewable energy project aims to curb these greenhouse gases, helping to reduce climate change and its potentially dangerous side-effects.

It’s known as the ‘Wind and Solar’ project and it was initiated by a California electrical technician named James Muffley.

“The vision is to create a small power generating system that will use renewable energy to provide cooling and electricity for the typical mid-sized home,” says Muffley. “By developing a more affordable and space-efficient system for the home we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower monthly utility bills.”

Last month Muffley submitted the idea to American Express’ The Members Project and so far more than 14,000 renewable energy supporters have voted to endorse his vision.

His ‘Wind and Solar’ project is now one of five finalists in this competition. The project with the most votes by Sunday, August 5 will receive $1 million - $5 million in funding to help bring it to life.

If his project wins, the American Solar Energy Society will work with Mr. Muffley to bring national research labs, manufacturers, and system integrators together to help turn his vision into reality.
