The US Energy Information Administration on Thursday reported a 23 Bcf
net storage injection for the week ending August 17, raising nationwide stocks
to 2.926 Tcf.
The build was below consensus expectations of a 27- to 32-Bcf injection.
In the same week of 2006, EIA reported 2.849 Tcf in storage. As a
result, the surplus over the year-ago level shrank to 77 Bcf from 108 Bcf,
while the surplus over the five-year average fell to 333 Bcf from 371 Bcf.
EIA reported a net injection in the week to August 10 of 40 Bcf in the
East region, raising inventories to 1.613 Tcf, compared with 1.632 Tcf a year
ago; and a 2-Bcf withdrawal in the West to 409 Bcf, compared with 390 Bcf a
year ago. The producing region reported a 15-Bcf withdrawal, cutting
inventories to 904 Bcf, compared with 827 Bcf a year ago.
Inventories now are 137 Bcf above the five-year average of 1.476 Tcf in
the East, 51 Bcf above the average of 358 Bcf in the West and 146 Bcf above
the 758 Bcf average in the producing region.
