Illinois to be home of clean coal-fired plant

FutureGen Industrial Alliance Inc. has chosen Mattoon, Ill., as the site
for the world´s cleanest coal-fired power plant.
Mattoon competed with three other finalists, Tuscola, Ill., and Odessa and
Jewett, Texas, to host the FutureGen demonstration project. The $1.5
billion, 275 megawatt Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle coal-fired
power plant will have near-zero emissions and test carbon sequestration
technology.
FutureGen is a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy and 13
corporate members. The plant will generate electricity using hydrogen-driven
turbines.
