Dec. 13

Texas utility Luminant has joined the FutureGen Alliance to site and develop a coal-fired plant with near-zero emissions.

The Dallas-based company, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings LP, will work with the nonprofit consortium of electric utilities and coal companies that have partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop the $1.5 billion, 275-megawatt FutureGen plant.

The project will include carbon sequestration technology and produce hydrogen for other applications. Luminant is the 13th company to join the alliance.
