Thus, requiring compulsory vaccination of children in order to allow them to attend public school is a policy which developed state by state, with each state writing its own exemption requirements as well. In recent years, however, under the guise of "national security", the federal authorities granted themselves ultimate authority over public health care, especially in case of a government-declared emergency. While the CDC still only "recommends" vaccinations to the states which then choose to impose them, in the event of an "emergency" the federal authorities have clearly signaled their intent to require whatever medications choose. There are no religious or other exemptions expected under such emergency circumstances.
