New York (Platts)--18Jul2007
The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' board
Wednesday approved a resolution endorsing an economy-wide approach to
combating climate change that will minimize costs to ratepayers, protect grid
reliability and maintain existing state efforts to cut carbon emissions.
Although some board members dissented, arguing that the policy statement
did not go far enough, the resolution passed in a voice vote as the board
met at the end of NARUC's summer meeting in New York City.
NARUC President James Kerr said earlier in the week that the policy would
be a "first step in what is clearly a continuing process."
NARUC expects to take up the issue again at its November annual meeting
and believes the resolution will give the organization a voice as Washington
lawmakers debate the the issue.
