Albertans Make the Leap to Green with Bullfrog Power

CALGARY, Jun 5, 2007 -- Canada NewsWire

Bullfrog Power, a leading Canadian provider of 100 per cent green electricity, today announced the launch of its service to Alberta homes and businesses. Bullfrog Power provides businesses, non-profits, and consumers with a new, convenient way to support renewable power.

Bullfrog Power is the only green power choice currently available to virtually all Albertans, without switching their electricity provider or retailer. Bullfrog Power exclusively sources from 100 per cent made-in-Alberta wind power that is EcoLogo(M)-certified under the federal government's Environmental Choice(M) Program.

Alberta residents who choose to become "bullfrogpowered(TM)" pay a modest premium of 2 cents per kWh to green their electricity, which, for an average Alberta household adds less than 50 cents a day to the electricity costs. Customers do not need any special setup or wiring to go green. Business customers, including those that occupy leased premises or locations that are not separately metered, can also go green with Bullfrog.

"Supporting clean, emission-free wind power generated right here in Alberta is a significant way for both homeowners and businesses to reduce their environmental impact and help address climate change," said Theresa Howland, Vice President, Western Region, Bullfrog Power. "We're thrilled to bring a new 100 per cent green power choice to Albertans that provides them with a practical, convenient means to do their part for the environment. We would also like to thank our founding customers for their support."

Several Albertans have already made the choice to go green with Bullfrog Power, including Calgary homeowner, Joelly Lang. "We wanted to find ways to reduce our emissions footprint," said Lang. "Now, we're excited that - for just a few extra dollars a month - we can make a real difference."

Bullfrog also announced that several businesses have "bullfrogpowered" some or all of their Alberta facilities including Wal-Mart, RBC Royal Bank, lululemon athletica, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut, Upper Canada Forest Products, Halsall, Cotton Ginny, Climate Change Central, Red Bloom Salon, Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery, G.A.P Adventures, The Coup restaurant, Power in Motion, Auld & Company Management Consultants, REAP Business Association of Alberta, hikingcamping.com inc., and Goodman, McDougall & Associates.

"We feel we have a social responsibility to try to make a difference and to do something to protect the environment, even if it costs a bit more," said Bernard Callebaut. "Our efforts to date include reusing and recycling our packing materials and sourcing local and organic products wherever possible. We are pleased that our partnership with Bullfrog Power - and their supply of 100 per cent green electricity - provides us with another means of meeting our obligation to the environment."

To serve the needs of its growing customer base, Bullfrog Power also announced that it will source all of the power from two wind turbines newly commissioned at the Oldman River wind farm near Pincher Creek by Bullfrog supplier Alberta Wind Energy Corporation. Additionally, in keeping with its commitment to bring new renewable power online, Bullfrog is investing in Alberta Wind Energy to help expand the project in the future.

"Choosing green power from Bullfrog is an important way to increase the viability of new wind projects in Alberta," said Douglas Amy, Director, Alberta Wind Energy Corporation. "We are pleased to work with Bullfrog Power with these first two turbines and hope to work further together in the future."

In a separate announcement, Bullfrog Power also announced today a new partnership with the Pembina Institute that will see the two organizations working together to promote the benefits of supporting clean, renewable power.
