Google awards $11 million to
advance plug-in hybrids
June 20 Google Inc.īs philanthropic arm is providing $11 million in funding to accelerate the adoption of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and oil dependence. Google.org awarded $1 million in grants to several entities that are promoting, researching and developing plug-in hybrid technology. It has announced plans for another $10 million in requests for proposals to fund the development, adoption and commercialization of plug-ins and fully electric cars. The Mountain View, Calif., company also has switched on the 1.6-megawatt solar panel installation at its headquarters, the largest solar installation on any U.S. corporate campus.
