House speaker takes global
warming delegation abroad
May 30 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading a bipartisan congressional delegation this week to Greenland, Germany, Great Britain and Belgium to meet with global warming scientists and political leaders. The fact-finding trip is in conjunction with a call by Pelosi, D-Calif., for Congress to pass legislation this year addressing global warming. "As we begin to craft legislative solutions to address this international crisis, members of Congress will see firsthand the economic and environmental impact of global warming, as well as the actions our allies are already taking to address this global challenge," Pelosi said. The congressional delegation accompanying the speaker consists of members of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, which the speaker formed this year. Pelosi said she personally would purchase carbon offsets to compensate for the carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the delegationīs air travel.
