"If these demands are not met within 14 days from Monday, June 4, 2007, Congress will have no other option than to embark on strike to press these demands." a Nigeria Labour Congress statement said. The NLC has given the government a 14-day ultimatum to reverse a recent rise in the price of petroleum products or face an indefinite strike. Key trade unions grouped under the NLC have vowed to resist the previous government's sale of the Port Harcourt refinery and a hike in pump prices, prompting threats of crippling general strikes in Africa's leading oil producer. "Fortunately negotiations are going forward and on the principle of the matter there is understanding and we hope to finalize it this (Iranian calendar) year." Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday. The President is hopeful an agreement can be reached on the proposed Iran- Pakistan-India gas pipeline before the conclusion of the current Iranian calendar year on March 20, 2008.
