"It's fantastic that we are leading the rest of Europe in developing this fuel." Virgin Chairman Sir Richard Branson said. Europe's first train powered by biodiesel went into service with Britain's next prime minister Gordon Brown on board for its maiden journey. Finance minister Brown traveled on the Virgin Voyager train, which left London Euston station for Llandudno on the north Wales coast. The train has been modified to run on a blended fuel which is 20% biodiesel. "We have legitimate concerns to revisit our investment plans... it's not like we're threatening, we are calling for interdependence. We are questioning this notion of supply security in the sense of being self reliant. This goes totally against the grain of globalization...we are calling for interdependence instead of independence." OPEC's alternative energy analyst Fuad Mohamed Siala said, while addressing a refining conference in Brussels in early May, reiterated the cartel's concerns that fast-growing interest in renewable fuels, such as biofuels, by oil-consuming nations could jeopardize OPEC's existing capacity expansion plans.
