Report predicts rapid growth
in wind power
June 25 -- A global energy market consulting firm estimates installed wind power capacity will reach nearly 49,000 megawatts by 2015. Emerging Energy Research forecasts more than $65 billion will be invested in additional capacity between 2007 and 2015. Its new study concludes the United States will lead the world in wind power by 2015, holding approximately 19 percent of the global wind market share. The current U.S. wind generation capacity is about 12,000 megawatts. Texas will account for about 23 percent of the growth while California, Colorado, Minnesota, New York and Washington combined will chip in 30 percent of total market growth, according to the Cambridge, Mass.-based firmīs report.
