Texas utility plans new mercury controls for 4 plants

June 13 -- A TXU Corp. subsidiary plans to install mercury control technology at all of the company´s coal-fired power plants, including three new proposed units.

TXU Power and Texas Energy Future Holdings LP, the holding company Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co., Texas Pacific Group and other investors formed to acquire TXU Corp. laid out plans June 12 to install activated carbon sorbent injection systems at all of TXU´s coal-fueled units.

Dallas-based TXU operates nine coal-fired units at four power plant locations and plans to add three new units at two existing power plants. It will begin installation of the mercury control technology in 2008 and the entire fleet should have mercury controls by 2011, said Mike Greene, chairman and CEO of TXU Power.
